UNDP Celebrates the One Year Anniversary of the Make My Island initiative

Make My Island initiative, launched in December 2016, celebrated its one year in action with its partners on December 17, 2017.

During the celebration, UNDP Resident Representative Shoko Noda thanked the partners for their efforts to provide localized solutions to local problems in the Maldives and noted that, “Development is of course a choice, and the decision to join this movement is open to all. So let us unite and be a part of the solution. The ‘Make My Island’ journey is one we can all be a part of.”

Speaking at the ceremony, Ali Riyaz, Director of Customer Services and Sales of DHIRAAGU reflected on the role private sector companies can take to develop the local community and supporting the sustainable development goals and we can all work together to bring local solutions through collaboration. Ali Riyaz also thanked UNDP Maldives for allowing DHIRAAGU to be a part of the initiative and creating the initiative which has allowed private sector partners to contribute to the development of the nation.

While UNDP evolves with the rapid changes being faced by the country, we remain committed to continue our support for the Maldivian people to live better lives. UNDP offers global expertise and local insight spanning almost 40 years in the Maldives. At the same time, innovative solutions, technical expertise and investment from the private sector can overcome many challenges for Maldives communities. With their immense potential, the private sector can become the leaders creating the biggest development impact on the ground.

The Make My Island initiative aims to provide localized solutions to localized challenges through collaboration between its partners where each partners strengths can be used to overcome challenges faced by local communities.

Join us! Let’s work together to transform challenges into opportunities for the Maldives and its people.
