Baa Dharavandhoo, March 28, 2018: Under UNDP’s Youth Leadership Programme, the five day Eco Camp held in partnership with Soneva, concluded in Dharavandhoo Island yesterday.
Eco Camp aims to empower young people to become responsible citizens and voice out their concerns regarding development issues including conservation and protection of the environment.
Held from March 23rd – 28th, with 26 participants from across Baa Atoll and 10 participants from Male’, the objective of this year’s Eco Camp was to increase civic participation in environment conservation and community development issues. The programme provided young people with the necessary skills and knowledge on leadership, tolerance, community development, advocacy, governance, climate change, environment conservation, gender equality, sustainable development goals complimented with a component on photography. The aim of the photography session was to provide an alternative medium to stimulate dialogue on different issues with members of the community and decision makers. The programme consists of learning session, skill building exercises and field visit component with experts from the respective fields facilitating the sessions.
The programme forms part of UNDP’s work in the area of Democratic Governance, which aim to increase citizen’s voice and participation for stronger governance institutions, through the use of different dialogue platforms and capacity building initiatives
